The story
After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.
Key characters
Trivia & background
- RDJ improvised large parts of his dialogue — including the final 'I am Iron Man', which established the MCU's post-credit standard.
- Marvel financed the film itself and mortgaged the film rights to its characters to do it — had it flopped, there would be no MCU.
🥚 Easter eggs & references
- Nick Fury's post-credit appearance mentions the 'Avenger Initiative' — in 2008 a pure nerd promise.
- Cap's shield leans half-finished in Tony's workshop — a crew joke at the time, canon later.
- Rhodey eyeing the silver spare armor: 'Next time, baby' — the War Machine tease that paid off two years later.
📍 Filming locations
- The cave scenes were shot in California (Lone Pine/Olancha) — the desert played Afghanistan.
- Tony's Malibu mansion does not exist: the Point Dume cliff house is entirely digital.
