Logan

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

• First superhero film with an Oscar nomination for adapted screenplay.
• Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' in the trailer defined an entire trailer era.

• The X-Men comics INSIDE the film: Logan calls them ice cream for bed-wetters — a meta comment on his own legend.
• Shane (1953) plays in the hotel — and provides the funeral speech of the finale verbatim.

• The end-times route: New Mexico, Louisiana and Mississippi — western country instead of studio sets.

No scene. Mangold insisted: after this ending, nobody gets to laugh.
